EDUC 2610: Intergroup Dialogue Facilitator Application

Intergroup Dialogue facilitators co-facilitate one section of the course, EDUC 2610/ILRID 2610: Intergroup Dialogue, while taking our course for facilitators, EDUC 4826/ILRID 4826: Leading Dialogue Across Difference.

Position Responsibilities

Pre-Semester Facilitator Training August 20 to August 23, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm each day. All facilitators must fully attend and successfully complete this four-day training.

Co-facilitate EDUC 2610 Wednesdays, 10:10 am - 1:10 pm, 1:25 pm - 4:25 pm, or 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm. You will co-facilitate one section of EDUC 2610 once a week. You and your co-facilitator will lead a group of 15-18 students through our semester-long process in intergroup dialogue.

Take EDUC 4826 Thursdays, 11:30 am - 1:25 pm, or 2:30 pm - 4:25 pm. You will attend EDUC 4826 once a week to receive process and content instruction for facilitating EDUC 2610 and to reflect on process and content with other facilitators.

Weekly Co-Facilitator Planning Meeting (~1 hour/week) You will meet with your co-facilitator each week to plan for the upcoming session.

Weekly Coaching Meeting (~1 hour/week) You and your co-facilitator will meet with your coach to reflect on the previous session and further plan for the upcoming session.

Read all of your students’ assignments (~1 hour/week) You will read through each of your student’s assignments to inform your preparation for each session.

Record attendance and provide weekly participation feedback (~10-15 minutes/week) You and your co-facilitator will record attendance for each of your students. You will also discuss and provide participation feedback to your students in Canvas.

Complete periodic participation assessment (~1 hour every 4 sessions) Three times throughout the semester, you and your co-facilitator will assess each student’s participation progress in the course and assign 10% of their participation grade.

Respond to student inquiries outside of class (~0-10 minutes/week) You and your co-facilitator will respond to any emails you receive from your students’ on processing course-related material, clarifying upcoming assignments, answering questions about participation feedback, etc. This includes forwarding pertinent information to the teaching team and asking for assistance with responding to student inquiries when needed.

Read for EDUC 2610 session (~1 hour/week) Facilitators are expected to integrate the EDUC 2610 readings into the activities and dialogues in class each week.

Read and prepare for EDUC 4826 session (~1 hour/week) Gain familiarity with the readings and additional information to enhance your understanding of the content and process.

Complete weekly reflection assignments (~30 minutes/week) Reflect on both the process and content of intergroup dialogue.

Eligibility Criteria

Potential facilitators must:

  • Have completed or be on track to complete EDUC 2610 with an A- or higher final course grade
  • Be able to fully attend all four days of pre-semester training
  • Be available for at least one time slot for EDUC 2610 and at least one time slot for EDUC 4826

Compensation

First-time facilitators earn 4 credits for completing EDUC 4826/ILIRID 4826 (Leading Dialogue Across Difference). (Facilitators do not enroll in EDUC 2610/ILRID 2610). Enrollment in EDUC 4826 takes place during the add/drop period.

Repeat facilitators may choose to facilitate EDUC 2610 for credit OR for payment. EDUC 4826 can be taken for credit up to two times. Paid facilitators earn $17.00 per hour. Paid facilitators have the same responsibilities as facilitators facilitating for credit, except they are exempt from the final paper assignment.

Facilitating for credit: Facilitators enroll in EDUC 4826 (4 credits). EDUC 4826 can be taken for credit up to two times. If you plan to take EDUC 4826 for credit a second time, you should consult with your college/advisor to understand if/how the credit will be recognized and if it will count towards any of your distribution requirements, etc.

Facilitating for pay: Facilitators earn $17.00 per hour. Paid facilitators have the same responsibilities as facilitators facilitating for credit, except they are exempt from the final paper assignment.

In order to facilitate for IDP, you must earn an A- or higher in EDUC 2610.

Our course incorporates varied instructional methods and activities. We make every effort to accommodate everyone, regardless of differences in ability. You may be contacted by one of our staff to discuss your specific needs.

Pre-semester facilitator training takes place before residence halls open. We are typically able to work with the housing office to secure early access to residence halls for facilitators.

EDUC 2610 will be offered Wednesdays 10:10 am - 1:10 pm, 1:25 pm - 4:25 pm, and 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm. In order to facilitate next semester, you will need to keep at least one of these time slots open in your schedule.

EDUC 4826 will be offered Thursdays at 11:30 am - 1:25 pm and 2:30 pm - 4:25 pm
